What it is
A simple pistol-grip radar gun from the optics company Bushnell. Hold the trigger to read, release it to see the fastest speed it caught. It switches between mph and km/h and runs on two C batteries. That's it: no memory, no app, no tripod mode. Bushnell no longer lists it, but plenty of new-old-stock units are still sold on Amazon by third-party sellers.

Who it's for
- Budget buyers who want a trigger gun, and are fine with old stock.
- Backyard and car-speed fun. It also reads tennis serves and race cars, which is half the reason it sold so well.
- A spare gun for a team that can live with 90 ft of range.
Its limits
- Discontinued. Warranty coverage on a reseller's unit is unclear. Ask the seller before you buy.
- 90 ft on a baseball. From behind a backstop to a 60 ft 6 in mound, that's fine. Much farther and it's out of range.
- Tops out at 110 mph on a ball. That's not a problem for anyone except exit-velocity work with strong hitters.
- Too cold to work? The manual's operating range starts at 32°F.
- Big and heavy next to a Pocket Radar, with C batteries.
- No hands-free mode, so someone has to hold the trigger.

- vs Pocket Radar Ball Coach: same ±1 mph spec, 120 ft range, pocket-size, hands-free, current with a 2-year warranty. It's the natural upgrade.
- vs Pocket Radar Smart Coach: adds the app, video and data on top.
- vs Sports Radar SR3600: the other trigger gun still sold new, with a continuous hands-free mode and a data port, but a shorter listed baseball range (about 60 ft).

FAQ
Is the Bushnell Velocity discontinued?
Yes. Bushnell lists the Velocity as no longer available on its own site. It's still sold by third-party sellers on Amazon and used on eBay.
How accurate is the Bushnell Velocity?
Bushnell's manual says ±1 mph (±2 km/h).
How far away can the Bushnell Velocity read a baseball?
The manual lists 10–110 mph on a ball from 90 feet away, and 10–200 mph on a race car at 1,500 feet.
What batteries does the Bushnell Velocity use?
Two C alkaline batteries. The manual lists up to 20 hours of operating time and an auto shut-off after 10 minutes without use.
Does it show peak speed?
It reads while you hold the trigger. When you let go, it shows the fastest speed it captured in that series, per the manual.
What should I buy instead?
The Pocket Radar Ball Coach has the same ±1 mph spec, a longer 120 ft baseball range, is much smaller, and is still sold new with a 2-year warranty.
