Pocket Radar Smart Coach
The Smart Coach (model SR1100) is the pick we recommend for most players, parents and coaches. It's a pocket-size radar with a published ±1 mph spec, and it pairs with a phone app that records video with the speed on it.

What it is
The Smart Coach is Pocket Radar's Bluetooth sports radar. On its own it works like any radar gun: point it down the ball's path, and it shows the speed on its screen. Pair it with the free Pocket Radar app and you also get:
- remote control of the radar from your phone
- a wireless speed display on your phone
- spoken speed call-outs
- adjustable speed ranges
- the speed embedded in video clips, with video and speed on screen at the same time
- data export to a CSV file, and uploading videos to other apps
It's also the only Pocket Radar that connects to the Smart Display (model SD2000, $299.99), a big cable-connected readout for a dugout or bullpen. Pocket Radar sells a 50 ft cable ($69.99) if you need the display farther away.

Who it's for
- Parents and players tracking progress. The app keeps history and exports a CSV, so you can see a season's worth of velocity instead of remembering one number.
- Pitching and hitting coaches. Video with the speed on screen makes mechanics talks easier. Hands-free mode on a tripod frees up your hands for catching or feeding.
- Recruiting videos. A clip with the velocity burned in is exactly what you want to send.
- Teams on a budget that want a big display (with the Smart Display) without buying a Stalker setup.
Its limits
- It costs $100 more than the Ball Coach for the same radar specs. If you'll never open the app, you're paying for nothing.
- Range is 120 ft. That's plenty behind a backstop, but Stalker's guns list 300–500 ft.
- No spin rate. For spin you're into Stalker Pro 3s money ($2,899.99) or a separate pitch tracker.
- The display connection is a cable. The Smart Display isn't wireless.
- A phone in the loop means one more thing to charge and pair at the field.
- AAA batteries. Carry spares, or use a USB power pack for long sessions.

Specs and prices from each maker's own page or store (or the named retailer), checked Oct 24, 2026. Accuracy figures are the makers' claims. Prices change; we never show Amazon prices.
- vs Pocket Radar Ball Coach: same radar, no app. Save $100 if you just want the number. Full comparison.
- vs Stalker Sport 3 Connect: double the price, much longer range, speed-sign support, and Accurate Angle tech for measuring off-center. iOS only. Full comparison.
- vs Bushnell Velocity: the Bushnell is discontinued, bulkier, and reads a ball out to 90 ft. The Smart Coach is the modern choice.
- vs Sports Radar SR3600: a cheaper trigger gun with a much shorter baseball range (about 60 ft per the retailer) and no app.
- vs phone apps: apps are free but they estimate speed from video. Apps vs real radar guns.
