What it is

A pistol-grip X-band radar gun. Pull the trigger for a reading on demand, or switch to continuous mode on a tripod for solo work. The feature that sets it apart at this price is the RadarDataPort, an RS232 output that feeds a Sports Radar LED display (sold as the SRDL-36-KIT with a 4-inch display) or speed-capture software on a PC. A program can buy the gun now and add a display later.

Who it's for

  • Bullpens, cages and camps where you work inside 60 ft.
  • Speed-pitch booths and fundraisers, using continuous mode and a wired LED display.
  • Buyers who want a trigger gun that's new, serviceable and made in the USA.

Its limits

  • About 60 ft on a baseball. It won't work from behind the backstop at game distance. The retailer itself points you to the SR3800 for that.
  • No published accuracy spec on the listing we checked.
  • One speed per throw, with no peak and plate speeds together (the SR3800 does that, per the retailer).
  • No app or Bluetooth. Data goes out over RS232 only.
  • 9V batteries aren't included.
  • No bat speed. For that you need a tool like the Swing Speed Radar.

  • vs Pocket Radar Ball Coach: about the same price, twice the listed baseball range (120 ft), a ±1 mph spec, and pocket-size. The SR3600 wins on display output and the trigger feel.
  • vs Pocket Radar Smart Coach: adds an app and video for about $80–$110 more.
  • vs Bushnell Velocity: both are trigger guns, but the SR3600 is still made and adds a hands-free mode. The Bushnell lists 90 ft on a ball.
  • vs JUGS Radar Cube: the Cube is an all-in-one big display; the SR3600 is a gun you can add a display to.

FAQ

Is Sports Radar still in business?

The SR3600 is still sold. Hitting Store listed it at $287.99 (regular $319.99) when we checked on Oct 24, 2026. We couldn't reach the maker's own site that day.

How far can the SR3600 read a baseball?

About 60 ft in typical conditions, per the retailer's listing, which also says a small or poorly aligned target can pull that down toward 30 ft. The SR3800 is listed at 150 ft.

Can the SR3600 run hands-free?

Yes. Continuous mode reads with nobody holding it and waits three seconds between readings so the catcher's throw back doesn't overwrite the pitch. It has a standard 1/4-20 tripod thread.

What is the RadarDataPort?

An RS232 serial output that sends readings to a Sports Radar LED display or, with Sports Radar's adapter, to a Windows computer. The retailer warns that a plain serial cable straight to a computer can damage both.

What batteries does it use?

Two 9V batteries (not included), or external power. The listing says over five hours of continuous use and about 50 hours of typical trigger use.
