Used Baseball Radar Guns

Some of the best radar guns ever made aren't sold new anymore. The Stalker Sport 2 and Pro IIs, JUGS's handheld guns and the Bushnell Velocity all live on eBay now. Buying used can get you pro-level range for well under new prices. Here's what to search for and what to check.

We don't quote used prices. They change daily. Each link below searches eBay for used listings; on eBay, filter by Sold items to see what that model has actually sold for lately.

Checklist before you buy

  1. Model and serial number. Look up the model's real specs on our pages or in the maker's manual.
  2. A video of it working. It should read a ball or a tuning fork, with the number visible.
  3. Battery and charger. Rechargeable handles on older Stalkers wear out. Price in a replacement if the seller can't show it holding a charge.
  4. What's in the box. Holster, charger, cables, tuning fork, sign cable.
  5. Sports model, not traffic. Traffic radars aren't made for balls.
  6. Seller ratings and returns. Buy where you're covered if it arrives dead.
  7. Compare with new. A used Smart Coach isn't a deal if it's $40 off a new one with a warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

FAQ

Is it safe to buy a used radar gun?

Usually, if you can see it work. Ask for a video of the gun reading a pitch or a tuning fork, check the battery and charger, and buy where you have buyer protection, like eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

How much should a used Stalker cost?

Used prices change daily, so we don't quote them. Search the model on eBay and filter by sold listings to see what guns actually sold for recently.

Can I use a police radar gun for baseball?

It's risky. Police and traffic radars are built for cars, and some makers say outright that their traffic models aren't for ball sports. Pocket Radar says this about its Classic/Traffic model, for example. Stick to sports models.

Do radar guns need calibration?

Check with a tuning fork made for that gun's band. Pocket Radar sells a 65 mph tuning fork for $39.99. If a used gun reads the fork correctly, the radar is likely fine.
